Tips in Writing Biology Essays

Biology essays discuss about life processes as well as organisms ranging from the biggest whales to the tiniest microorganisms. There are conventions being followed in writing Biology essays. First of all, the most important attribute of a Biology essay is its concise and clear presentation of the topic being discussed. This can be achieved through the following:

* The question or problem should be stated in clear and specific ways
* There should be a concise survey of related literature
* A complete description of the methodology used to investigate the problem and the results of the investigation
* There should be a comprehensive and incisive discussion in order to place the results into perspective

Just like any other essay, well-written Biology essays should also be free of spelling and grammatical mistakes. Biology essay writing falls into the category of scientific writing, where the acceptable writing style is concise and direct, without flowery language or metaphors. Below are some other pieces of advice in terms of structural principles of scientific writing:

* A grammatical subject should be followed by a verb as soon as the sentence structure will permit
* The verb in each clause or sentence should articulate the action
* Introduce and provide the context before you present any kind of information
* Put new information situated at the end of the sentence in the stress position, while the name of the person or thing being described at the beginning of the sentence should be in the topic position
* Put any information which links backwards while contextualising forward in the early part of the sentence, specifically in the topic position
Another important component of a Biology essay is also the citation format for the works you have consulted. This will vary depending on the course and your teacher.
